An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to work in the expanding Frailty service at George Eliot Hospital. We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic candidate with relevant experience and interest in elderly care to work across an acute service.

The role will involve working as an integral part of a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team, to provide Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments to frail patients using client-centered physiotherapy interventions. 

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of pathologies associated with frailty, and demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake assessments, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with a diagnosis of Frailty. These patients often have complex and / or chronic presentations.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload, working without direct supervision.
  • To take a role in supervision and teaching of junior qualified therapists and assistants.
  • To demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to service development and monitoring of standards of practice.
  • To work flexibly over 7 day period, as the service requires and be part of the respiratory on-call rota

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 2-3 years post-graduate experience
  • Broad Band 5 rotational experience
  • Supervisory experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Acute NHS experience
  • Involvement in audits
  • Contribution to clinical education of junior staff/students
  • Previous senior experience in area
  • Experience working within a Frailty patient group

Qualification and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy
  • Good standard of general education including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English grade C and above
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including recent attendance at relevant post-graduate courses
Desirable criteria
  • CSP Membership
  • Involvement /membership in Special Interest Group

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information
  • Able to prioritise and organise own workload
  • Able to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate course of action

  • IT skills – computer literate in email, Word & PowerPoint
