We are currently seeking a full-time Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our busy Urology Department.

We are a very busy Urology Out-Patient department covering a wide range of clinics, diagnostic procedures, treatments and local anaesthetic procedures including Perineal Prostate Biopsy and flexible cystoscopy Alongside these you would also run the nurse led Trial Without Catheter Clinics, Flow Clinics, and Catheter Clinics when competent. You will be expected to cover administrative and clerical duties, including writing correspondence to other health professionals. Limited extended roles may be required to support the Urology Nurse Specialists and Urology ACP.

 We currently run a 5 day service (Mon- Fri), however future development to a 7 day service is expected in the future so the successful candidate would need to be able to work flexibly

Main duties of the job

The post will incorporate the Staff Nurse role dimensions to support the Urology activity within both the CDC and Urology investigation unit. This will acquire assisting with flexible cystoscopy and prostate biopsies but other workload in diagnostic urology will be co-operated in the role. 
The role will include: 
•    Support nursing and medical colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care in the urology diagnostic and procedure settings
•    The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality. 
•    To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff. 
•    To support the Urology Nurse in charge Nurse/Lead Nurse to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients. 
•    In the absence of the Lead Nurse be responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit. 
•    To manage a group of Nursing Assistants and assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate. 
•    To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated Nursing Assistants. 
•    To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and improve patient care. 
•    To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical

1.1 Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based upon a sound evidence base.

1.2 Undertakes and documents a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, social and spiritual needs of the patient where appropriate.

1.3 Creates and utilizes opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.

1.4 Manage a group of patients throughout the clinic and ensure updated documentation and digital systems.

1.5 Working within the N.M.C Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one’s own abilities and limitation.

 

2.0 Managerial

2.1 In the absence of senior colleagues manages the Department on occasions without direct supervision when competent to do so.

2.2 Use computerised systems to support the provision of patient care and treatment.

2.3 Work within Clinical Governance Standards and Trust Policies.

2.4 Ensure that concerns and complaints from patients, visitors or colleagues are resolved where possible and reported to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

2.5 To be conversant with all Trust Emergency Procedures.

2.6 Comply with Trust Manual Handling Policy.

 

3.0 Education and Training

3.1 With the support of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse maintains personal and professional development in line with the N.M.C. revalidation requirements.

3.2 Participates in the supervision and professional development of Health Care Support Workers and Learner Nurses.

3.3 Participate in audits.

3.4 Participate in the Trust’s Appraisal System.

3.5 To take responsibility for own personal development raising any training requirements.

 

4.0 Professional

4.1 Ensures that the Lead Nurse is informed of any professional concerns at the earliest opportunity.

4.2 Ensure that revalidation requirements for N.M.C. Registration are adhered to.

4.3 Ensures current registration with NMC
