We are looking for some keen and enthusiastic individuals who can bring forward thinking ideas to our very busy department. The role will require a full UK driving licence and car as you may be asked to transport items to other sites, although a main ‘base’ site will be identified. 

This role requires  Phlebotomy Experience

Perform phlebotomy and support other staff of a team whilst providing optimum patient care. To deputise for the Phlebotomy supervisor in their absence and carry out duties deemed reasonable by the phlebotomy manager.

Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services provides phlebotomy services at 6 main sites; University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in Coventry and in Rugby, City of Coventry Health Centre in Coventry, George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and South Warwick Foundation Trust in Warwick with Out-patient and In-Patient services. A number of Community Clinics, GP Clinics and Domiciliary services are also supported, covering, Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Birmingham.

We are currently looking for a Phlebotomy Team Leader to work at  George Eliot Hospital . We are looking to increase access to our services for patients, and are therefore looking to introduce both In-patient and Out-Patient services across 7 days. Applicants will be expected to work shift patterns to support these services going forwards, including early, late, weekend and Bank Holiday shifts.

1.    Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and homes of patients as specified by the supervisor. They must be experienced in taking blood from all types of patients of all ages from babies to the elderly.

2.    Undertake Competency assessments of the Venepuncture procedure to all new staff.

3.    To be a point of reference for Health and safety for the department attending and supporting regular Health and Safety meetings held by the division in the absence of the Phlebotomy Supervisor.

4.    Responsible for monitoring and recording of staff leave / absence.
5.    Responsible for ensuring mandatory training is completed.
6.    To undertake all duties as performed by phlebotomy supervisors in their absence.
7.    To support phlebotomy supervisors in their role.
8.    To engage and support phlebotomy supervisors in the compiling of staff rota’s.
9.    Responsible for the safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps.

10.    Undertake reception duties, to welcome and advise patients and staff as required by supervisor.

11.    Responsible for the tracking and recording of samples to ensure that relevant information is available for audit purposes.

12.    Responsible for the recording of Key performance indicators for the phlebotomy department.

13.    Responsible for the amount of consumable stocks and their availability.  

14.    Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the department and role.

15.    To provide and participate in appraisals and personal reviews and to work to achieve personal objectives.

16.    To participate in the provision of a comprehensive phlebotomy service 7 days per week and all days of the year.

17.    To assist with the provision of high quality service for staff and patients.  

18.    Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.

19.    To undertake such duties as shall be prescribed by the Network Phlebotomy Manager in accordance with this grade of post.
