Job overview
Rugby St Cross Theatres is a GIRFT accredited elective hub which currently has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic theatre practitioner. We are looking for a Senior Theatre Practitioner to join our upper limb team. Our theatre complex includes trauma and orthopaedics, spinal surgery, plastics, breast, general surgery, ophthalmic, and pain management. Our shoulder and elbow service offers services such as arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, ORIF's, anatomic and reverse arthroplasty as well as elbow replacements to name a few. We have developed a flexible approach, with the ability to manage rapid workload changes across multiple theatres. We contribute to the continual development of a quality service ensuring best practice is followed resulting in optimum patient care.
The post holder will hold a current registration with NMC or HCPC, have evidence of CPD and a teaching and assessing qualification. It would also be desirable for them to have a degree in relevant subject or be willing to undertake. The post holder must have previous knowledge and experience of working within an upperlimb service.
Main duties of the job
A speciality lead, providing clinical leadership and management support, for the upper limb service within theatres at Rugby St Cross, this will involve being team leader for the weekly lists and providing support and developing for other scrub practitioners. Band 6 practitioners are expected to deputise in the absence of band 7 Clinical lead. This post involves list planning, stock and implant procurement, liaising with surgeons, instrument Co Ordinator’s secretaries and company representatives as well as leading PDR reviews.
The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with NMC/HPC Code of Conduct. They will adhere to and understand all Trust & local policies and procedures.
The post holder will need to have at substantial clinical experience within theatre in particulary a shoulder and elbow speciality and possess excellent communication skills and have a vast amount of knowledge with the ability to apply evidence based practice.
The post holder will also need to hold a good understanding of ICT and technology, be able to prioritise and meet deadlines effectively, and be able to use initiative and make decisions.
They must act professionally at all times,be motivated and be able to motivate others, be calm and objective and approachable with good interpersonal skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are currently looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic memeber to welcome to our Rugby St Cross theatre team as a senior theatre practitioner lead for the shouder and elbow service.
- Weekly list planning, stock and implant procurement, liaising with surgeons, instrument co ordinator’s, secretaries and company representatives to ensure everything that is required for the surgery is available.
- Undertake regular floor control duties to ensure the smooth running of the theatres on that day, esculate daily issues to the manager of the day
- Assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
- Accountable for own actions in accordance with the code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
- Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.
- Maintain health, safety, and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
- Prepare, monitor, and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.
- Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
- Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies.
- Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
- Continually develop own knowledge by evaluating and reflecting on practice.
- Maintain a professional profile.
- Maintain accurate & legible records of care.
