Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

Job overview

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Diabetes and Endocrinology Consultant to join the existing dynamic team of seven consultants to continue provision of specialist inpatient and outpatient services to the local population. There is scope to accommodate sub-specialty interests and to support undergraduate teaching for medical students from Warwick and Buckingham Universities. 

 

Main duties of the job

The job plan includes inpatient support on our GIM/specialty ward on a 2 in 7 basis including supporting the weekend on a 1:7 basis leaving 5:7 for speciality work. There is a commitment to the emergency duties rota for general (Internal) medicine including out of hours on call on a 1:14 basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting time to join the Diabetes and Endocrinology department in Warwick. A diabetes clinical network is already overseeing integration and innovation in diabetes care across the district including incorporation of Telehealth and supporting community services. In addition, the trust is affiliated with providing education needs for students from the Buckingham Medical School and Warwick Medical School.

The department is looking to expand focus on admission avoidance and expediting discharges by appointing  a new consultant.

 Joining a team of seven other consultants and nurse specialists, the new appointee will provide in-patient care for diabetes and general medical patients on a 7 day basis as well as running comprehensive outpatient services.  There will be opportunity for the candidates to develop sub specialty interests and services in line with the service needs. In addition, the candidates will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the Diabetes and Endocrine block of undergraduate medical education to the phase 2 students from Buckingham Medical School and Warwick Medical School. We are a forward-thinking Trust who has been recognized nationally for our work on patient pathways and integration across the health and social care economy.  In addition to our acute services, we provide a full range of community services.

  • Eligibility to be entered on the Specialist register in acute/general internal medicine or be within 6 months of a CCT in acute/general internal medicine
  • Expressed interest in undergraduate and postgraduate education

  • Teaching or leadership qualification
