Job overview

The Head of Place is a senior leadership role with the accountability for the delivery of safe, effective and integrated care for alL CWPT delivered Mental Health services for a significant, but discrete population. They are responsible for leading and managing the delivery and development of the Multi-Disciplinary Place based integrated Community Mental Health teams and will form collaborative working relationships with the local the Primary Care Teams, Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and key VCSE partnership across their place.

The post holder will hold a professional clinical qualification 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver an effective, collaborative working environment within the place, so that all MH services (including but not limited to older people services, Talking Therapies, Community MH, Recovery, Early Intervention and well-being services operates in a safe, effective & efficient way and is part of the whole system of community mental health services to respond to need.

They will need to work in partnership with the speciality Heads of Service (e.g. Talking Therapies) and manage the complexities of matrix working (where several agencies are accountable for delivery in different ways), leadership and accountability for delivery of key targets and measurables. 

The post holder will adopt and lead the implementation of the “no wrong door” philosophy across their place-based services, ensuring that the focus is assessment and the collective meeting of needs, moving away from traditional referral and wait ways of working, and becoming increasing aligned in skill and capacity, to the needs of the local population. As such, the post-holder will have a degree of a working knowledge of population health management and the experience to work with local communities to ensure that patients drive the service improvement agenda in partnership with the organisation

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a Masters level or demonstrable knowledge at the same level
  • Evidence of other specialist leadership training and commitment to personal development
  • Extensive knowledge of the Health and Social Care system including Mental Health

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to work collaboratively with other teams and clinical leads
  • Sensitive to local clinical and political demands
  • Capable of working under pressure, to deadline and within a team and/or own initiative
  • Strongly evidenced negotiation, influencing and persuading skills
  • Ability to bring a clinical MDT together and facilitate complex decision making for the best clinical outcome
  • Knowledge of population health management and its application to clinical service innovation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of operational leadership a senior level in the NHS or within an equivalent healthcare setting
  • Experienced in internal and external partner relationships and alliances in progressing organisation operational issue resolution.
  • Demonstrable experience across mental health and/or related services
  • Relevant experience of managing clinical services, stakeholder management; and partnership working at a senior level both internally and externally.
