Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Service

Clinical/Counselling Psychologist – Working Pattern: Full time/Part Time.

1 post available in the Dudley & Sandwell Perinatal Mental Health team (Band 7 or 8a considered).  Please contact us to discuss.  

Are you ready for a new challenge?!  Due to maternity leave we have a fixed term post available within our Perinatal Mental Health Service.  Part time, flexible working and some remote working available.  Hours ranging from 2 days up to full time would be considered. The length of contract would depend on number of hours worked, from 8 months up to 1 year.

The Perinatal Mental Health Service provides a specialist multi-disciplinary service to treat mothers with mental health problems, both during pregnancy and in the first year post-partum. As part of the 5 year forward plan, Perinatal mental health services in the Black Country are currently expanding which has led to the creation of additional psychology posts. The successful candidates will enhance the psychology provision for the team and join a welcoming and psychologically minded MDT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for highly motivated Clinical/Counselling Psychologists with a keen interest in perinatal mental health. The main clinical work undertaken by the post-holder will be to provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for mothers and their babies and families in the community. Being allied to the multi-disciplinary team in the Perinatal Service, the post holder will act as a member of the team by attending MDT meetings and offering supervision, advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to team colleagues. The role may also involve supervision of qualified and/or unqualified psychologists working in the community setting.

You will join a friendly and supportive Psychology Service that offers excellent opportunities for research, personal development and special interests.  We are committed to providing training and supervision opportunities for our staff, and we support networking, exchange of good practice and peer support amongst Psychologists and other disciplines across the Trust. We have well-established links with Birmingham University and other academic institutions, and enjoy excellent relationships with our clinical and managerial colleagues within the Trust.

Applicants will need to have a genuine interest in perinatal mental health and psychological therapies, excellent communication skills, and a good knowledge of safeguarding. Experience of working in the perinatal mental health field and/or a keen interest in this specialist area is desirable.
