Job overview

The Head of Safeguarding (Adults and Children) will be directly line managed by the Associate Director for Safeguarding and will be required to
maintain daily oversight of the safeguarding service management and immediately escalate any risks to the Associate Director for Safeguarding.
This role will support the Associate Director for Safeguarding by promoting good professional safeguarding, providing operational leadership for
safeguarding adults and children activity within BCHFT services and contribute to the delivery of the Trust Safeguarding Strategy. The role of
Head of Safeguarding (Adults and Children) will act as a visible role model creating a supportive ethos to empower staff to contribute to the
delivery of high quality safeguarding practice across the Trust. In addition, the will operationalise the Trust Safeguarding Strategy and put into
action and will have responsibility for the development and delivery of sound safeguarding practice, process and systems for children, young
people and adults. As Head of Safeguarding the role will line manage the 4 Lead Named Nurses with responsibility for ensuring the Safeguarding
Team deliver all the key objectives and requirements for the safeguarding of all patients, across BCHFT whilst demonstrating effective interagency
partnership working.

Main duties of the job

• Direct Line Management responsibilities for BCHFT Safeguarding Team.
• Deputise for the Associate Director for Safeguarding at Local Safeguarding Children’s Partnerships and the Local Safeguarding Adults
Board; represent the Trust on Groups, as required.
• Provide highly specialist safeguarding advice in relation to both Adults and Children.
• Lead the development and delivery of the Trust’s Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children operational work-plans.
• In the absence of the Associate Director for Safeguarding act as a single point of for the Trust leading on public protection issues such
as Hate Crime, Modern Slavery and PREVENT in conjunction with partner agencies such as the police and social care.
• Demonstrate advanced skills and competencies to influence pathways of care to safeguard vulnerable people and will ensure that
evidenced-based practice and guidance is provided to staff managing safeguarding cases.
• Ensure timely escalation of any immediate risks or concerns to the Associate Director for Safeguarding.
• Provide expert safeguarding supervision to senior colleagues within the Trust and provide advice and guidance to Lead Named Nurses
and other staff as required (Including senior managers).
• Behave consistently with the values and beliefs of the organisation and promotes these on day to day basis.
• A requirement of this post is that the post holder will also participate in the Trust’s on call rota.
