Working for our organisation

Sussex Partnership was formed in April 2006 as an NHS Trust and established as an NHS Foundation Trust with Teaching Trust status in August 2008. Building on the strengths of our Care Delivery Service model, we have recently moved to a four-division operational and clinical structure that includes three place-based divisions, for Brighton &  Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex, and one specialist division for CAMHS, learning disability and neurodevelopmental services and forensic services. The specialist division will work in a co-ordinated way with place-based services in the three geographical areas. The Trust strives to provide consistently high-quality services, working in partnership with each other, the people who use our services and other organisations. This post will sit within the Brighton and Hove division along with a wide range of adult psychiatric and psychology services, and could be combined with another post subject to availability. The post also works into the Lawson HIV unit within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, and the post holder will work across organisational borders with HIV consultants and nurses. The HIV mental health service is well established within the Trust and the Lawson unit and is highly valued with excellent relationships with staff and patient outcomes

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post of Consultant Psychiatrist in HIV is a part time outpatient role, which would be ideally done over one day per week. The current post holder works on a Friday, based within the Lawson HIV unit, but there is room to negotiate a different day if needed. The main responsibilities of this post are to offer assessment and brief interventions to patients who have mental health disorders that are related to their HIV diagnosis, and to liaise and consult with referrers (predominantly the HIV clinical team) regarding the mental health support needs and provision of patients attending the Lawson Unit.  The post holder will contribute to care planning, risk management and treatment of patients alongside the wider HIV mental health team. There is also scope for co-working with other psychiatric and mental health services within Sussex Partnership to support patients with complex difficulties. This includes working with the ATS to support staff to care for patients living with HIV who may also have severe and enduing or complex mental health presentations.  The post holder may also have the opportunity to input into the strategic development of mental health support for HIV patients and to collaborate with the HIV mental health team psychologists in doing so. The team are supportive and collaborative and work well to support one another. Additionally, Brighton and Hove is a Fast Track City aiming to have no new HIV transmissions, zero stigma and no deaths from HIV by 2030. The HIV mental health team and the post holder has the opportunity to input into initiatives supporting these goals.
