Job overview

We're looking for a Consultant Practitioner Psychologist /Psychotherapist / Psychological Therapist to lead our friendly, highly-skilled and enthusiastic community of psychologists and psychological therapists in the Brighton & Hove Adult community mental health services (Assessment & Treatment Service, Community Rehabilitation team, and Assertive Outreach Team). 

This is a permanent Band 8c post (WTE 1; 37.5 Hours per week, with options for flexible working, and job share if preferred) where you will be working with adults with complex mental health problems, their families and carers. 

Applicants must be registered as Practitioner Psychologists with the HCPC, or have recognised professional accreditation in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT), Art Therapy (HCPC), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP), or Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP or UKCP). 

We are keen to support your professional development and will support you to undertake additional specialist training relevant to the post, plus the regular CPD opportunities for the psychological professions available in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the Brighton and Hove Assessment & Treatment Service (ATS), which provides community mental health services for adults of all ages. The service is multi-professional and based across two hubs; East Brighton Community Mental Health Centre and Mill View Hospital.  The ATS places a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary team working and close working relationships with other local mental health services and community organisations.  You will also provide professional leadership to Psychological Professions staff within the Community Rehabilitation Team and the Assertive Outreach Team. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Practitioner Psychologist/Psychological Therapist / Psychotherapist to support and develop the work of the Psychological Professions within adult community mental health services in Brighton and Hove.  You will offer professional leadership and clinical leadership within these services, working directly and indirectly with the client group, and supporting multi-disciplinary colleagues in working with people presenting with high risk and complex needs.  You will offer supervision and consultation to the services and ensure that the highest standard of psychological assessment and intervention is offered to the population we serve.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be a successful Consultant Practitioner Psychologist / Psychological Therapist / Psychotherapist in our team, you will have:

§  Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained before 1996 or outside the UK] as approved by the HCPC, OR recognised professional accreditation in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT), Child Psychotherapy (ACP or UKCP), Art Therapy (HCPC), Play Therapy (BAPT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP), or Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP or UKCP).

·       Assessed extensive experience of working as a qualified or registered Practitioner psychologist / Psychological Therapist / Psychotherapist, including significant post-qualification experience within the Specific Care Group/Service.

  • Extensive experience of providing successful clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary mental health provider context

Psychological services in Brighton place a strong emphasis on co-production and drawing on the expertise of people with lived experience, and we welcome staff who share these values to join our service. 

Brighton Psychological Practitioners are valued members of the service and offer specialist assessments and interventions, psychological formulation and team consultation. The psychological professions workforce in ATS has expertise in a wide range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy, EMDR and systemic family therapy.   We would particularly welcome applicants qualified as EMDR Consultants, but would value expertise in any of the above approaches.

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained before 1996 or outside the UK] as approved by the HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in a recognised psychological therapy [or equivalent postgraduate level qualification with further experience and/or training], leading to recognised professional accreditation in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT), Child Psychotherapy (ACP or UKCP), Art Therapy (HCPC), Play Therapy (BAPT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP), or Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP or UKCP).
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
  • Accredited / registered with professional body / regulator as detailed above

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
