Job overview

We are excited to announce a full time permanent Band 7 position for a qualified Mental Health Nurse who has a passion for nursing education, to work as a Professional Nurse Educator  in collaboration both Specialist Services and with the Department of Nursing Research, Education and Development (NRED) at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The Professional Nurse Educator (PNE) will be working across Sussex within specialist services which cover Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Forensic Services, Early intervention in Psychosis and Perinatal Services.

Main duties of the job

The overarching aim of the PNE is to facilitate in a supernumerary capacity, supporting the clinical, professional, and educational development of nursing workforce colleagues (including but not limited to: registered nurses, internationally educated nurses, learners on nursing apprenticeships, student nurses and healthcare support workers).

Initially (first 6 months) the role will focus on supporting Internationally educated Nurses who are working in inpatient forensic services in both Hellingly and Chichester.  A priority aim will be to support these nurses to develop competencies to enable them to work at  Band 5 level.  Following this the role will focus more broadly across the division.

The PNE will be responsible for the development, delivery, and evaluation of a programme of clinically relevant practice education to support the professional development of the mental health nursing team, with a specific focus on enabling the delivery of high-quality patient/person centred care that is grounded in evidence-based practice and underpinned by national, organisational and trust objectives and policies.

The PNE will ensure sufficient high-quality placements to enable safe, effective, compassionate care to be delivered by all learners and staff.

This is a Sussex wide role and the successful applicant must be able to travel across various SPFT sites.

Working for our organisation

The successful candidate will work with the Department of Nursing Research, Education and Development to understand the wider strategic educational picture but be based 100% of the time in practice to manage pre-registration and post-registration nursing, and apprenticeship placements.
