Job overview

We are seeking to recruit two Fixed term Consultants to join our dynamic and friendly Anaesthetics department.  

We are a busy anaesthetic department with a commitment to train both local and international trainees and have an active educational programme. The successful candidate will hold the FRCA or equivalent and have evidence of extensive experience within anaesthesia. We particularly welcome applications from motivated individuals keen to invest in the development of our services and who will contribute to a positive departmental culture

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will part take in the General Anaesthetic rota, comprising anaesthetic duties for a wide range of surgical interventions, both planned and emergency (specialties detailed above). Stabilisation of paediatric emergencies prior to transfer is undertaken by both the General Anaesthetic rota and the Intensive Care rota.

Person specification

Experience/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Basic medical degree
  • • FRCA or appropriate specialist qualification
  • • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • • CCT in Anaesthesia or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
Desirable criteria
  • • Subspecialty interest in Bariatric Anaesthesia
  • • FFICM OR DICM or EDICM
  • • ATLS/APLS/ALS

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Understanding of clinical risk management
  • • An ability to communicate well with patients and staff
  • • Broad experience in all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia, and Acute Pain

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • • Breadth of experience in and outside specialty

Organisation & Planning

Essential criteria
  • • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • • Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended

Teaching Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
