Simulation Fellowship in Anaesthesia (Trust Doctor Equivalent CT3+)
NHS Medical & Dental: Simulation Fellowship in Anaesthesia (Trust Doctor Equivalent CT3+)
Job overview
The post is available from August 2025 for one year and is intended for Anaesthetists with a strong interest in Simulation and Medical Education. The successful applicant will work closely with the Simulation team at St. Richard’s Hospital, under the supervision of Dr Honor Hinxman, Consultant Anaesthetist and Anaesthetic lead for Simulation, and further input from Dr Alexander Hall, Consultant Anaesthetist and Trust lead for Simulation.
The fellow will be responsible, together with the clinical skills team, for the provision of regular simulation sessions for medical students. They will also have the opportunity to be involved in simulation training for a number of different specialties, including the Anaesthetic department, and on a number of locally run courses, eg PROMPT, CCRISP.
Main duties of the job
There are a number of exciting projects including an increasing amount of multi-disciplinary training and simulation training in situ. There will be opportunities and support for new projects, and also be the opportunity to attend Faculty development and Human factors training.
They will be expected to have on average two days a week dedicated to simulation, patient safety, and other medical education projects. There will be some clinical theatre service commitment to the Anaesthetic department at Chichester and an additional on-call commitment with internal cover either to theatres, ICU or Obstetrics. All on-call rotas are EWTD and New Contract compliant.
It is preferable that applicants have a minimum qualification of the primary FRCA; the post is busy and offers great opportunities to develop the trainee’s portfolio as well as their experience.
In recent years our Simulation Fellows have presented at a range of national conferences and achieved a number of publications. This has put them in extremely strong positions for subsequent training programme applications.
Funding has been approved by HEKSS to provide a PGCert in Simulation and this successful candidate will be part of the Multi Professional Simulation Fellowship programme.
