Are you a Clinical Pharmacist wondering what other roles are out there? Would you like to broaden your knowledge into pre-hospital medicines and find out how you can make a difference to the ambulance service?
Then come and join us on a 12-month secondment opportunity or fixed-term contract! Work with our multi-disciplinary team, responsible for leading and delivering excellent clinical care and advice across the Trust, both in our 999 and 111 services.
As the Specialist Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide leadership and advice on all matters associated with medicines optimisation and clinical pharmacy services across the Trust; driving service improvement using technology to enable the best and most efficient use of resources.
Quality improvement is a key part of this role and you will use incidents, national guidance and best practice to develop education programmes that meet the needs of our staff and our patients.

The core responsibilities for this role are:
- To ensure that the Trust is compliant with the legal and statutory requirements in relation to all matters that pertain to medicines governance and management.
- To support the Medicines Distribution Centre (MDC) Manager in the line management of pharmacy technician(s) and/or pharmacy support worker(s) in the organisation when required.
- Perform the professional role of a registered pharmacist which includes advice, supervision, co-operation, problem solving, and training and support of colleagues.
- To deliver teaching sessions both internally and externally to Paramedics, medical and nursing staff and other health care professionals as requested
- The post holder will be required to provide expert and specialist knowledge in relation to medicinal products and their use as well as assist in the development of new clinical protocols and treatment options including the development of patient group directions (PGDs)
- Develop guidelines, policies and procedures for medicines use within the Trust as required.
- Respond to medicines related queries from Trust staff
- To support and help collect data for clinical and procedural audits
- Assist the Chief and Deputy Chief Pharmacist in the preparation of reports to Medicine Governance Group and operational line managers, lead clinicians, summarising clinical and medicine activities and medicines utilisation trends within the locality and across the Trust.

You will also:
- Develop systems to ensure medicinal products are stored appropriately and securely on all Trust premises and vehicles, complying with national, statutory and local requirements
- Assist the Chief and Deputy Chief Pharmacists on all matters relating to medicine management and governance within the Trust
- Contribute to medicines management within designated areas to ensure the requirements of CQC and other key governance frameworks are met.

Qualifications

- Master’s degree in pharmacy (MPharm)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
- Has/Working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
- Has/working towards and independent prescribing qualification
Experience

- Previous employment or experience in a primary or secondary organisation in a education/clinical advisory/supervisory role
- At least four years post qualification experience including stores/procurement
- Track record of successful multidisciplinary team working
- Experience of continual training or supervising staff
- Evidence of track record in supporting and promoting effective prescribing in primary and secondary care

- Experience of managing the delivery of operational services and achievement of performance targets
- Experience of using risk management reporting systems and undertaking clinical investigations into incidents and complaints
- Experience of influencing change
Knowledge

- Understanding of National and local priorities
- Able to interpret and summarise a wide range of clinical information and demonstrate appropriate clinical knowledge and application
- Good knowledge and understanding of the formulation, preparation, and therapeutic action of medicines
- Understanding of clinical and information governance and underpinning guidance, processes, and policies
- An understanding of the nature of primary and secondary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing, medicines optimisation and strategies for improving prescribing
