Job overview

To ensure the day to day delivery of Facilities to the highest standards of excellence to units within North Sussex inclusive of Crawley and Horsham to include Facilities Services, cleaning, floor maintenance, housekeeping, pest control, linen & laundry and waste.
Take individual responsibility for duties associated with Facilities plus other functions agreed with Assistant Facilities Managers. Work closely with facilities, estates, clinical, catering and  administration colleagues, clients, service users, PCTs and support groups to ensure an integrated approach to achieving an effective service of the highest standards of patient care.
Acting as a focal point for ward and departmental staff, promoting good customer care, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, current legislation, Trust policies and NHS cleaning standards. 

 

Main duties of the job

Supervise the provision of a comprehensive and efficient cleaning services to all Trust units in line with NHS cleaning standards.
Ability to travel and undertake the day to day management of a team of Domestic Assistants across multiple sites in North Sussex inclusive of Crawley and Horsham sites including Langley Green Hospital, 78 Crawley Rd, New Park House and Ifield Drive and any other units taken on for North Sussex sites.
Manage Facilities Services and provisions of cook freeze food at inpatient units issuing supplies and managing stock control.
Responsible to ensure equipment is regularly maintained and replaced as needed.

Undertake monthly audits for cleanliness across multiple sites to meet compliance targets set by Managers
Process timesheets, using e-roster for the recording of all staff returns as it is introduced and stores orders and other work records that relate to own area of work.
Undertakes compliance audits of work in line with current legislation.
Deals with staff issues in a caring and compassionate fashion, including distressing and emotional circumstances 
Acts as a role model in all aspects of their role, focussing particularly on cleaning standards, customer service and effective communication
Keep accurate and complete records consistent to ensure that they comply with legislation, policy and procedure.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide comprehensive and efficient cleaning services and support to all Trust units within West Sussex in line with NHS cleaning standards

Day to Day management of a team of Domestic Service Assistants.

To manage Domestic Services and provision of cook freeze food at inpatient units issuing supplies and managing stock control. Supervising staff and monitoring standards by means of QA’s

Knowledge of a range of Trust policies and management procedures.

Ensure orders relating to catering and cleaning are done on time to provide an effective service to the units.

Oversee training of staff via e-learning and ensure compliance with COSHH and with Safer Food Better Business practices.

Highlight and cover staff shortages, planning rotas analysing most cost effective methods of cover.
Ensure all staff are working to comply with National cleaning standards

To provide effective leadership and management to staff which promotes high performance standards both individually and as a team, in the achievement of the Trust’s objectives and priorities. The Trust’s success will be dependant on all managers playing an active role to make sure the existing areas of good employment practice are universally embedded
within the organisation.

Supervisors will be expected to:
• Carry out regular documented supervisions with individual staff members
• Understand the Trust’s key priorities and those of your care group and translate these into key priorities for your care group
• Ensure clarity and effectiveness in developing and designing roles
• Ensure management of staff is consistent with Trust’s HR Policies to the achievement of
equality, equity and optimum performance.
• Complete annual Appraisals for all staff which reflect these priorities and ensure staff have access to appropriate training and development
• Communicate regularly through meetings with teams and individuals and provide opportunity for two-way feedback through staff meetings or ad hoc meetings/supervisions
• Promote an effective team ethos.
• Promote equality, diversity and rights, and treat others with dignity and respect ensuring services are developed, managed and delivered to meet the specific needs of those belonging to protected characteristics.
• Contribute to developing and maintaining equality of opportunity in working practices by complying with legislation and organisational policies. Advise colleagues about equality, diversity and human rights policies and procedures and ensure they are followed.
• Ensure that colleagues are treated fairly. Behave in a non-discriminatory way and challenge the discriminatory behaviour of others. Be supportive of colleagues or service users who wish to raise issues about discriminatory practice or experience.

  • Vocational qualification level 4/5 or relevant experience
