Job overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a respiratory and sleep physiologist to join our Sleep Physiology team at Queen Victoria Hospital.
The post holder will be expected to work as part of the Sleep Disorder Centre team to develop and expand the service. Support the existing departmental activity including overnight polysomnography (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of wakefulness Test (MWT), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, oximetry, WatchaPAT and actigraphy studies.
The post holder will be expected to support and manage patients on CPAP therapy, by conducting face to face and video consultations. This includes patients with OSA and OHS.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a Senior Sleep Physiologist with experience in full and limited polysomnography and analysis of full PSG's as well as experience in CPAP titration and review clinics who has enthusiasm for a career in Sleep and to support the development and expansion of the service.
We are passionate about training and development of our team and in service improvement around patient - centred care. The post holder will be expected to participate in the management of the staff including annual appraisals, performance management and induction of new staff.

The post holder will be expected to act as Night Lead during overnight shifts. The post holder will be expected to work on average two nights per week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To work as part of the Sleep Disorder Centre team to develop and expand the service. Support the existing departmental activity including overnight polysomnography (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of wakefulness Test (MWT), Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, oximetry, WatchaPAT and actigraphy studies.
- Carry out overnight full and limited cardio-respiratory polysomnography on patients with a range of sleep disorders including sleep disordered breathing, REM and non-REM
parasomnias, sleep movement disorders, nocturnal epilepsy and insomnia. - Analyse, interpret and report on respiratory and full PSG data, home oximetry, WatchPAT and actigraphy, and liaise with consultants, GP’s, other healthcare professionals and patients on diagnosis, results of studies and treatment plans.
- Initiate CPAP and NIV therapy and provide ongoing support for patients, reviewing and adjusting treatment as necessary.
- Participate in the management of the staff including annual appraisals, performance management and induction of new staff.
- Assist with the training and mentoring of the staff in order to develop the expertise within the team in line with departmental objectives. Contribute to the business planning process for development and expansion of the service.
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to meet the needs of the patient and provide best possible care.
- The post holder will be required to work different shifts including night and twilight patterns.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in clinical physiology or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate specialist knowledge within this field through practical experience
Desirable criteria
- MSc in clinical physiology or equivalent specialist experience and knowledge of advanced procedures
Skills
Essential criteria
- Full polysomnography scoring
- Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex data
Desirable criteria
- NIV experience
Experience

- Previous experience of delivering front-line patient care within NHS or other healthcare provider
- Experience in managing a team
