Job overview

We are pleased to offer a post to join our Urology service in University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust as a senior clinical fellow. This post is suited to candidates nearing or who have completed their Urology specialist training (or equivalent) and are looking to further their experience in complex Urology surgery.

The post holder will work predominantly at The Princess Royal Hospital but may be required to attend the Royal Sussex County Hospital to support the major trauma service as and when required.

Main duties of the job

Our close-knit and enthusiastic team are passionate about delivering high quality and innovative Urology care, you would have access to cutting edge technology working from our new £8m Urology Investigation and Treatment Centre.

You will join a team of 8 friendly and enthusiastic Urologists, Clinical Nurse specialists, faster diagnostic services, 6 middle grades (3 NTNs), 2 CTs and 3 F1/2s.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Senior Fellows will have the opportunity to benefit from consultant-led training in theatres, access to robotic theatre, outpatient clinics and MDTs. Other opportunities within this post includes contribution to research, undergraduate education and management/leadership roles.

 As well as contributing to the elective wards alongside the other registrars, you will participate in the 1:7 general on call rota which provides cover to the acute emergency Urology service at Princess Royal Hospital and the Royal Sussex County Hospital. This will provide experience to emergency care/theatres and multi-disciplinary working in a major Trauma Centre.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Basic Medical Degree
  • MRCS or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
  • Current ATLS provider registration
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree

Clinical Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must have competencies or equivalent to minimum level 3 of ST3
  • Log book of surgical procedures

Organisation and Planning

Essential criteria
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended

Teaching Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised teaching qualification
