Job overview

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and patient-focused pharmacy technician with good communication and team working skills to work as an inpatient pharmacy technician at Sussex Partnership NHS FT.

The role will include medicines optimisation on the wards at Meadowfield Hospital, Forget me not unit, Selden centre and Shepherd House in Worthing, West Sussex.

Responsible for the provision  of technician and medicines management services  to all units/ wards of the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. 

To supervise pharmacy assistants, pre-registration pharmacy technicians and trainee pharmacists whilst working within the mental health service. 

To support and develop with the technical developments of medicines management to the units/ wards within this locality.

To ensure that the service is safe, efficient and effective.

To assist in the organisation, development and to participate in the provision of patient medication education to service users and their carers, liaising with staff to identify service users and carers who would benefit from these interventions.  These sessions would be expected to cover the range of specialities encompassed by this diverse service.

To act as a role model for provision of pharmacy services to mental health to other pharmacy technicians and assistants within the team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for pharmacy technicians to have a role in direct patient care with opportunities to develop your knowledge and clinical skills.

We welcome application from pharmacy technician colleagues with experience in mental health.  A comprehensive programme of training and clinical supervision will be provided and including access to and inhouse training program and to the CMHP courses - Psych 1 & 2.

We take pride in developing our pharmacy technicians through formal and informal study, clinical supervision and training.

We provide pharmacy and medicines optimisation services to the inpatient wards and our Pharmacy staff are highly regarded as valued members of the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Registered as Pharmacy Technician with GpHC

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVq Level 3 or BTEC
  • Medicines Management accreditation
  • ACPT
  • NVQ A1 assessor

Non-clinical knowledge / exper

Essential criteria
  • Met KSF Band 5 gateway
  • Experience supervising or managing other staff
Desirable criteria
  • Previous management experience

Clinical knowledge and exper

Essential criteria
  • Hospital Pharmacy experience
  • Experience of delivering medicines management schemes
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in mental health setting
  • Experience using clozapine monitoring system

Planning & organisation
