Trosolwg o'r swydd

The Department of Gastroenterology of University Hospitals Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based on the St Richard’s and Worthing Hospitals sites are seeking two new consultant appointments to significantly expand and enhance our existing team and to improve service delivery for gastroenterology in West Sussex.

Our close-knit and enthusiastic team are passionate about delivering high quality and innovative gastroenterology care across all sub specialties and would welcome interest from potential candidates. The posts would suit a recently completed NTN candidate seeking their first substantive consultant appointment or an established consultant seeking a professional opportunity in a new region.

The post holders will deliver acute and elective work across both Worthing and St Richard’s Hospitals. The precise nature of the timetable and main site of activity will depend on the specialist interests of interested and appointable candidates.

You will join us during an exciting period in our organisation’s evolution following the recent mergers that created University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust, now the fifth biggest Trust in England.  University Hospitals Sussex Foundation Trust also hosts Brighton and Sussex Medical School.  Worthing & St Richard’s Hospitals are also a training site for the regional Endoscopy Training Academy, founded in 2022 within our Trust.

Outpatient services in University Hospitals Sussex at Worthing and St Richard’s Hospitals (this would include a contribution to the general service needs including TWR but also an opportunity to develop a specialist interest clinic service as well)

Endoscopy provision – predominantly diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as GI bleeding therapeutics; n.b. other therapeutic skills and interests complementary to the department would also be welcomed.

Rotational commitment to the provision of care on our gastroenterology inpatient units (currently 2 weeks in 10 on both sites)

Rotational commitment to the out of hours GI bleed rota and weekend gastroenterology inpatient unit on calls (cross site) currently 1:10 weekends, 1:11 weekdays; please note there is no GIM on call responsibilities in this role

An opportunity to develop specialist service delivery in line with existing individuals skills and departmental capacity – current areas specifically in need of expansion are HPB medicine (including ERCP/EUS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease although other interests would be considered for a high quality candidate.

We would expect the appointed candidate to share in the motivated, professional and patient centred approach of the existing department. Teamworking and cohesive working relations are a priority for us.
