Clinical Fellow Trust Doctor in Emergency Medicine with Spec. Interest
MN37
Job overview
Our clinical fellow posts have been rolled out across the whole of the Medical Division, recognising the importance of combining clinical work and professional development at an early stage of your career. We want to develop and expand these roles to offer exciting professional development opportunities within the field of Emergency Medicine, which in itself is such a broad-based specialty.
The posts are ideal for people with a developing passion for Emergency Medicine who want to start taking on EM junior middle-grade responsibilities in a well-supported and pro-active department or those who are already confident with middle grade duties and are looking to consolidate an established passion for this exciting specialty. They will enable time to be spent developing non-clinical experience or skills during the 30% non-clinical time.
There are also opportunities for more experienced Emergency Medicine doctors who are looking for some time out of training or keen to have time to explore something new.
Main duties of the job
The posts will comprise of 70% standard ED clinical work and up to 30% special interest time (which would include personal teaching time.
Generally, the posts are of 1 year duration, but shorter or longer posts will be considered depending on the needs of the individual and department requirements. This will release periods of weekday time to undertake a special interest role and allow greater flexibility compared to traditional rotas, whilst still fulfilling the requirements of your contract. The rota is based on gold standard rostering systems as advised by the Royal College of Medicine, using semi-self-rostering in an annualised system.
The clinical work will be on the junior or senior (ST4+ equivalent) middle grade rota depending on previous experience.
Up to 30% of these roles will be dedicated time to develop a special interest or further your educational requirements. You may choose to work as an educational fellow, supporting the medical students and foundation doctors in the department and developing your own educational and simulation skills. Maybe your passion is point of care ultrasound and you would like to have dedicated time to further develop your clinical skills in this area, as well as helping the department establish ultrasound teaching resources. Perhaps your passion lies in the extremes of age and working as a frailty or paediatric EM fellow would interest you.
