Job overview
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of occupational needs and the delivery implementation and evaluation of therapeutic programs that support recovery, rehabilitation, transformative learning and transition work in a Low Secure Hospital setting. The post holder may work autonomously at times and be required to delegate tasks. They will be expected to work toward supervising qualified and unqualified staff. They will act as a mentor to students, will be a preceptor to newly qualified staff and may sometimes be responsible for line supervising unqualified staff. The post-holder may be expected to represent the Senior Therapists or OT Professional Lead. As a newly qualified Occupational Therapist they will undergo a period of preceptorship and will undertake the above job purpose in negotiation with their preceptor and once they have met their objectives and their preceptorship is completed they will then be able to meet the job purpose fully.
Main duties of the job
· Support Moorlands View Low Secure Hospital to meet quality standards, implement policy & procedure.
· Manage and priorities clinical caseload under the supervision of an appropriately qualified health professional.
· Support recovery, rehabilitation, transformative learning, social inclusion, maintenance or development of life skills, roles and responsibilities within all occupational domains. Promote and maximise potential for independence whilst managing risk factors appropriately.
· Work within the occupational therapy process utilising occupational therapy models and other specialist assessments.
· Gather and analyse historical and current information relating to referral/ admission/ discharge.
· Carry out holistic assessments, in the most appropriate environmental setting (e.g. hospital, community, home, work-place).
· Utilise relational & recovery based approaches to establish potential for rehabilitation, ongoing or historical maladaptive patterns of behaviour, appropriateness for admission to service and need for ongoing support post discharge.
· Complete Occupational therapy contributions to care act assessment. liaising closely with CMHT and housing providers, representing at funding panel where required.
· Reflect on complex facts gathered or situations presented and use analysis and judgement skills to consider options for interventions.
