Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to join the Musculo-skeletal, Breast, Plastic and Therapies Clinical Service Unit (CSU) as a Service Manager. We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual who is willing to work in partnership with the specialty leads, clinicians, nursing staff and senior administrators to ensure the delivery of timely, safe, effective care and support financial, strategic and operational objectives.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide operational and leadership support to a number of specialties and be responsible for the performance of administrative and clerical staff.  They will ensure that services are delivered within budget to agreed quality standards and in accordance with agreed activity levels.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will also work with CSU staff and other senior managers and be involved in the strategic development of services so that the care we provide continues to meet patient need and changing demand.  The post holder will be a key part of the CSU management team and will need to work collaboratively and autonomously so that CSU and Trust wide objectives are achieved.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience at middle management level
  • Experience in the management of multi-professional teams underpinned by formal management training
  • Demonstrable experience of operational management in a multi- professional environment
  • People management experience including appraisal and objective setting, recruitment and retention, disciplinary and performance management processes
  • Budgetary management experience and familiarity with cost saving initiatives
  • Understanding and experience of complex information analysis essential for informing business, finance and workforce decisions
  • Previous experience in operational and strategic planning including options appraisal methodology, project/service development and change management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a complex, externally regulated politically sensitive public sector organisation
  • NHS management experience including ensuring administration processes support efficient patient pathways, governance assurance and understanding of AHP/Psychology services

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the working of the NHS and wider healthcare system
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of financial and commissioning frameworks
  • Knowledge of workforce and capacity planning and developing business cases
  • In depth knowledge of waiting list management and effective data utilisation
  • Knowledge and application of key policies and procedures to include constitutional targets; patient bookings, patient choice; health and safety for example
  • Understanding of the NHS modernisation agenda
  • Working knowledge of NHS Constitutional Targets

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to or working towards degree level or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Willingness to undertake training and development as identified through the PDP process
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level qualification in a related field
  • Management qualification or post graduate diploma
