An  opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated registered nurse with post registration experience to lead the expanding Gynaecology clinical nurse specialist service at Bradford NHS Foundation Trust.

The  Macmillan Gynaecology Clinical Lead Nurse Specialist will be responsible for the management of a defined caseload, the assessment of care needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and providing specialist nursing care, support and advice to patients and carers.  Working as a member of the multi-disciplinary team you will provide advanced nursing expertise/interventions to our patients with Gynaecological cancer, enhancing the quality of life for patients/carers with a suspicion or diagnosis of Gynaecology cancer; including complex physical,  and emotional needs.

 REQUIRED:

The successful candidate must be a Registered Nurse ( Level 1  with the ability to work in a team, and independently with strong leadership and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, engagement, and experience of clinical audit and standard stetting you will provide education and training to patient and their carers with a commitment to personnel and service development and manage change in a supportive way. 

The post will involve travelling between the two sites (Bradford Royal Infirmary and Eccleshill Hospital) and externally to WY & H to attend meetings, therefore an ability to travel is essential.

 

Main duties of the job

  • The post-holder will be responsible for the management of a defined caseload (patients/service-users) and will provide specialist nursing support, advice, education and/or care to that specific group. They will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care .

 

  • Provides continuous responsibility for managing own clinical defined caseload providing clinical leadership and a role model to nursing by delivering high quality care to nursing staff on wards and OP departments (patients/service-users) including setting standards, assessment of needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care following (clinical) protocols within Gynaecology Oncology service . Organises, prioritises and evaluates workload based on accepted referral and discharge criteria in line with operational protocols. Responsible for ensuring own practice is evidence-based.

 

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates specialist care and treatment regimens for patients diagnosed with Gynaecology cancer, taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender, cultural background and preferences of the individual, making reasonable adjustments to care where this is appropriate.

 

  • Identifies patients physical, social and emotional needs, provide information and emotional support to them and their carers and referral to appropriate agencies as required e.g. Cancer Support Yorkshire.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience at band 5 or above , including experience of working in a relevant clinical specialty ( Gynae Oncology )
  • Experience of caseload assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care demonstrating knowledge of specific patient needs
  • Experience of participating in clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries

SKIL

Essential criteria
  • Report writing / Presentation skills
  • Computer literate – ability to use Word/Excel/Powerpoint, etc
  • Organised approach to work with ability to prioritise and delegate

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and experience, with understanding of the speciality patient group and current issues relevant to this group
  • Recruitment and Selection, Appraisal and other relevant HR/People management training

Qualifications

  • RGN ( Level 1)
  • Degree or equivalent level of education or experience in relevant specialty
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of current CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration qualification in relevant specialty
