Job overview

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen at Bradford Teaching Hospitals (BTHFT)  permanent full time band 5 staff nurses on the Oncology / Haematology Day Case Unit based at The Meadows, Eccleshill Community Hospital. The Oncology / Haematology unit is a supportive day case chemotherapy unit where we combine clinical excellence with high standard of care, using a holistic approach to achieve the best possible outcomes. The unit treats a range of patients as day cases offering chemotherapy / immunotherapy and supportive treatments, to patients with oncology / Haematology malignancies and non-malignant hematological conditions. The unit will soon be delivering a blood transfusion service and the potholders will be expected to rotate through the unit once appropriate training and competencies are achieved.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team, where the successful candidate can develop the skills and knowledge in cancer care, full support will be given to undertake the Systemic Anti Cancer Treatment (SACT) Passport competencies as well as a range of in house training opportunities relevant to the specialty. It is a rewarding specialty that requires a caring, dedicated team worker with a passion for holistic nursing care.

 

 

You will be required to work Monday to Friday (with the possibility of a 7 day service in future) including some long days and across site if required.

Main duties of the job

Carries continuous responsibility for a defined patient caseload including setting standards of care, assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care following clinical protocols.

 

5.1.2      Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates specialist care or treatment regimes for patients requiring Intravenous treatment taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender, cultural background and preferences of the individual, making reasonable adjustments to care where this is appropriate.

 

5.1.3      Undertakes chemotherapy competency training programme to learn, develop and gain skills in delivering chemotherapy and associated treatments to patients, adhering to Trust policy.

 

5.1.4      Works as part of the MDT fostering effective professional relationships to ensure effective

            communication and a seamless service for patients.

 5.1.5      Works across organisational and professional boundaries as an expert practitioner as part of the MDT, e.g. liaising with colleagues in primary care (District Nurses, GPs etc)

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching junior staff both qualified and unqualified
  • Previous Oncology/Haematology experience.
  • Previous ward experience as a qualified nurse

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal and written command of English.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use own initiative and act independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills.
  • Capable of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • IV skills

Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy administration and other treatments to both in and out patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • UK Registered General Nurse
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant ENB courses.
