Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellows providing 2nd tier on call cover in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is aimed at individuals pursuing a career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This is a fixed term post for a period of 12 months.

The posts aims to provide further experience of working at a middle grade/registrar level in OMFS. Thus experience at DCT2 level or above in OMFS is needed. 

The posts offers a good scope for obtaining surgical experience and further training. The units practice covers Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including Head and Neck Cancer, Facial Deformity, Trauma, Salivary Gland Disease and Cutaneous Malignancy. 

The post holder will be an integral part of the team and will be able to gain experience of departmental acute work, and will form part of the middle tier on call rota. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Main duties of the job

The post provides further experience of working at a middle grade/registrar level in the acute setting in OMFS.

The unit’s practice covers the majority of the scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including Head and Neck Cancer, Facial Deformity, Trauma, Salivary Gland Disease and Cutaneous Malignancy. Currently Bradford has 7 Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 1 Consultant Oral Surgeon and is well known for being a unit that is supportive of its trainees.  The team is complemented by a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry providing rehabilitation and advanced restorative management of surgical patients and 4 Consultant Orthodontists with whom we also work closely as part of a multidisciplinary team. There are good working relationships with our closely related surgical specialities of ENT and Plastic surgery. 

The post holder will be an integral part of this team and be able to gain experience of a large amount of the scope of departmental acute work, forming part of the middle tier on call rota on a 1:12 basis. The opportunity may also arise for additional sessions to be undertaken in outpatient clinics, local anaesthetic treatment clinics and our operating theatres, which would remunerated appropriately. The department has an active research profile and a strong teaching record & the successful applicants will be encouraged to partake in research, QIP/audit and teaching.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical governance / audit experience; Candidates may be expected to provide evidence of personal audit
  • Out of hours experience relevant to job.
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk independently
  • Minimum of three years (FTE or equivalent) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent EEA training), of which at least 1 years training must be in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practice safely
  • Commitment for managing professional development

IELTS certificate to be presented at interview. If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of these examples they must provide supporting evidence
