Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly department and to help continue the work of the pharmacy admissions service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic pharmacist to be part of a team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians providing extended hours pharmacy services to the Trust’s admissions units.  The team is responsible for providing cover to the elderly, medical and surgical admissions units 10 hours per day, seven days per week and is responsible for ensuring that timely, high quality, medicines reconciliation takes place as soon as possible after admission. The team is also responsible for ensuring medication is provided to patients quickly and efficiently and is key to facilitating the discharge process.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their clinical training and become an Independent Prescriber across medical and surgical specialties. Further clinical responsibilities eg. anticoagulation clinic, may be available.   The role will involve working on a rota basis between 8 am and 6 pm.

Successful applicants meeting the essential criteria will be offered a band 7 post. We also welcome applications from candidates who are working towards the essential criteria (i.e. are yet to complete a clinical diploma). Such applicants, if successful, will be offered a band 6 post, with automatic progression to band 7 in the future, on meeting the remaining essential criteria. Support will be given for training and development to enable such progression.

This role is critical to providing a high quality clinical service to newly admitted patients. The post holder will need to be flexible and organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation, have the ability to delegate effectively and to work as part of a team with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

  • Experience of working in a NHS hospital

  • Able to receive, summarise and interpret a wide range of clinical information.
  • Able to work effectively to short, medium, long term and changing deadlines
  • Able to review and provide specialised advice on medicine use in specific clinical areas
  • Able to work independently and under guidance, within departmental, Trust and statutory and professional codes of practice/ethics
  • Computer literate

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Broad knowledge of therapeutics
  • Knowledge and understanding of the formulation, preparation, and therapeutic action of medicines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Independent Prescribing qualification
  • Working towards RPS Faculty accreditation
