We are looking for an organised, motivated and enthusiastic qualitative or mixed methods Research Fellow to contribute to our Healthy Urban Places (HUP) research programme and wider Born in Bradford (BiB) portfolio of Healthy Places research.

The vision of our Healthy Urban Places (HUP) programme is to provide a step change in understanding how best to harness the power of local urban places as tools to improve population health and reduce inequalities. It is a major new grant award from the UKRI Population Health Improvement research network and will create a transdisciplinary research programme that will elucidate how and why local environments influence population health, and directly influencing the implementation of place-based changes in two case study sites: Bradford and Liverpool.

The post holder will undertake other duties e.g. obtaining ethical approvals, developing recruitment and research protocols, co-ordinating the development and piloting of different research methods, training of data collectors including peer researchers, collecting data, ensuring data collected is of a high standard, and where appropriate, working with the project management team to co-ordinate recruitment activities.

The post holder (PH) will work with senior members of the team to contribute to the delivery of work within HUP and the wider BiB Healthy Places research portfolio. With the direction and support of the senior research team, they will have responsibility for designing, piloting and undertaking research activities including stakeholder engagement and consultation, qualitative research, surveys & co-production activities. These will focus on gathering insights to inform the design of development of neighbourhood and city-wide interventions intended to improve local environments and health.  This will include working with communities, peer researchers, professional stakeholders. The PH will be responsible for data collection and analysis, and may take a lead in the writing of academic papers and dissemination of research results to a range of stakeholders.

They will actively contribute to dissemination and engagement activities (for example, the BiB family festival, community groups, school network meetings, and parent governor groups).  They will also support the activities of the Bradford Centre for Qualitative Research (BCQR). This will involve working with the BCQR team to organise training, capacity building and networking events for qualitative researchers in BIHR, increasing opportunities for collaboration and securing further grant funding to conduct community-driven, high impact research. The PH will work flexibly according to the requirements of the research project.
