Job overview

Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation trust are looking appoint professional, positive, customer focussed security officers. You will be involved in ensuring the welfare, safety and security of a diverse hospital-based community and its assets, including car parks, buildings and accommodations.

Responsibilities will include responding to enquiries in person, by phone or email, liaising with other clinical and non-clinical departments, incident response including conflict resolution, mental health episodes and violence and aggression. Attending and responding to emergency situations such as fire alarm activation and evacuations, lockdown response and crime related calls for service. General patrolling internally and externally of the hospital including car parks and issuing parking charge notices.

It is essential that the post holder must hold a full clean UK driving licence and be over the age of 21 for insurance purposes, have good assertion, customer care skills and experience, written and verbal communication skills with experience of note taking and report writing, fully computer literate, and be flexible following a shift pattern to deliver a 24/7 service.

Main duties of the job

1.    To carry out frequent patrols of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites.

2.    To deter, prevent, detect and initially investigate security related incidents such as theft, criminal damage, assault, violence and aggression and liaise with the Police as necessary and take steps, which may lead to apprehension of the person responsible.

3.    To review, assess and advise, if necessary, employees on matters relating to improving security.

4.    To lock and unlock certain areas and set and de-activate intruder alarms as required. In the event of any alarm being activated, to immediately investigate and liaise, if necessary, with the police as required in accordance with set procedures.

5.    To liaise with the Estates Department on security maintenance matters, e.g. lighting, broken windows, locks, swipe card readers etc.

6.    To undertake appropriate action in accordance with current fire procedures.  Directing the Fire Service and, as required, out of hours key holding services.

7.    To assist in preventing and managing acts of violence or disorderly or abusive conduct on Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites.

8.    To respond to intruder, lift and fire alarms as required, taking charge of the incident until the arrival of a senior member of staff or external emergency services.
