This is a fixed-term post providing an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Clinical Technologist or Radiographer to join our small, but friendly team providing a Bone Densitometry (DXA) service for Bradford and the surrounding districts. Part-time hours may be considered.

Significant experience in DXA scanning is essential for consideration.

The department is currently open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5pm and there will be some flexibility as to how the working hours of this post sit within this period.

The department has a brand-new state of the art DXA scanner.

The DXA scanner is based in St Luke’s Hospital and currently carries out osteoporosis screening on around 4,000 patients per annum.

The key responsibilities of this post are to carry out all routine aspects of bone densitometry scanning, processing results, and assisting the section head with the implementation of service developments. The post holder may also undertake report generation as part of this role. Experience in reporting DXA scans would be advantageous. Once familiar with routine scanning, the successful applicant would undertake training to be able to report DXA scans.

The post-holder will be a member of a team providing clinical services within the Medical Physics Department carrying out Bone Densitometry (DXA) scanning.

Bone densitometry is a specialist, patient-orientated and appointment driven service with associated time constraints. The post-holder will exhibit independent judgement and take action after consultation with senior staff, sometimes in complex and non-routine situations. The post-holder is required to work to extremely high standards of accuracy, safety and accountability.

Bone densitometry provides a screening service for osteoporosis to approximately 4000 patients per annum. The work is carried out independently following agreed protocols and is routine in nature. Strict attention to detail is essential.

The workload covers both in-patients and out-patients, from inside and outside the Bradford region. The services must respond to rapid changes in demands.

The post-holder will undertake the routine aspects of the bone densitometry service. Common activities relating to the services will include scanning patients, processing results. The post-holder will also be expected to carry out DXA reporting once training has been completed.

The post holder liaises with technicians, consultant radiologists, clinical scientists, clerical staff, and consultants within the Trust, and referring clinicians from a wide geographical area. Communication with relevant external agencies is also required.

Knowledge
