An opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join the team on Ward 15, BRI.
Excellent caring and people skills are vital for this role and an interview process which reflects this will be used to select candidates
The post involves shift work and rotation onto night duty
As a Healthcare Assistant you will assist individual patients with elements of basic nursing care and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a registered nurse and contribute to the ongoing support of patients and their relatives.
You should be able to demonstrate excellent caring and people skills, gained through working in a care home, community care or hospital setting. This experience should have given you a good understanding of the fundamental aspects of care.
You must also demonstrate a good verbal and written command of English, along with excellent
communication/ interpersonal skills and a reasonable level of numeracy.
Minimum NVQ Level 2 in health/health and social care, QCF Diploma in health, *GNVQ, *BTEC in health or health and social care (*required to complete care certificate if not already achieved)
Main duties of the job
§ Assist individual patients with elements of basic nursing care and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a registered nurse.
§ Assist individual patients with activities of daily living according to individual needs including personal hygiene, appearance, oral care, fluid and dietary intake.
§ Monitor and record fluid balance and dietary intake. Report areas of concern.
§ Enable/assist patients to minimise discomfort and pain according to the prescription of care.
§ Participate in clerical duties as required.
§ Support qualified staff by carrying out accurate record keeping, taking and relaying verbal and written messages promptly, respecting confidentiality.
§ Contribute to minimising the effect of disruptive, abusive behaviour and the protection of individuals from abuse, complying at all times for Health & Safety/Risk Management detailed below.
§ Escort patients, whose clinical condition has been deemed to be stable by a registered nurse or health care practitioner (e.g. doctor), to and from the Radiology Department, wards and departments.
§ Undertake the collection of routine specimens, e.g. sputum, stool, urine.
§ Undertake physiological observations, e.g. BP, respiration rate, temperature, pulse rate. Report areas of concern.
§ Any other duties as required and appropriate to the level of this post.

§ Assist individual patients with elements of basic nursing care and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a registered nurse.
§ Contribute to the ongoing support of patients and their relatives.
§ Contribute to the support of patients in transition from one care setting to another.
§ Assist with obtaining, transmitting and storing information related to the delivery of a care service. See section regarding Respect for Patient Confidentiality below.
§ Assist and contribute to the movement and treatment of patients to achieve physical comfort and minimise the adverse effects of pressure according to the prescription of care. Report areas of concern to qualified staff.
