Principal Clinical Psychologist

Neurodevelopmental and Learning Disability Pathways

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, Bradford District 

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our leadership team in Bradford.  The role is supported by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and a team of Principal Psychologists who work collaboratively and creatively to deliver excellence across the Service.  Psychological Therapists from a range of therapeutic orientations, Practitioner Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists work under the Psychological Therapy umbrella to support work at all levels of the system, ensuring psychological understanding and formulation is embedded from the front door of patient care through to service development and representation at a wider professional and organisational level. 

We are keen to support the development of all staff and we provisionally attach to this role an opportunity to complete a PGDip in Clinical Neuropsychology as well as other developmental options.

-To act independently and use own initiative within appropriate operational guidelines and service protocols; deciding where necessary to refer to the Clinical Lead and/or Head of Psychological Therapies.

-To act independently and use own initiative within appropriate occupational and clinical guidelines; deciding where necessary to refer to the Clinical Lead and/or Head of Psychological Therapies.

-Provide specialist evidence based psychological therapy, making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice.

-Provide clinical/professional leadership, supervision, consultation and advice on psychological therapies.

-Provide clinical/professional leadership, service/policy development, specialist teaching and advice for a designated portfolio of clinical pathway(s).

-Support adherence to relevant NICE guidance and clinical governance arrangements.

-To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service functioning by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

-Work with the Clinical Lead and/or Head of Psychological Therapies on service development, leading research and development activities.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate level training in clinical or applied psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical, psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS, or a BPS Statement of Equivalence. AND Eligibility for Chartered Clinical Psychologist status. AND Undertaken post-qualification further training in a specialised area of psychological practice e.g. neuropsychology, CBT, CAT, DBT, solution focused therapy, analytical therapy, systemic / family work

  • Leadership training
  • Teaching (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience
  • Training in trauma informed care
  • Training in advanced clinical supervision
  • Additional qualifications associated with research e.g. PhD

This role is embedded within the neurodevelopmental and learning disabilities pathways that are multidisciplinary including, nursing, OT, Social work, psychiatry colleagues alongside two qualified psychology roles and three assistant psychologist roles.  

Key to your role will be supervision of others, as well as offering high quality assessment, formulation and interventions for Children and Young People (C&YP) and their families referred to Bradford Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.     Systemic formulation skills, collaborative working, and a trauma-informed lens will be key to the focus of the work and an interest and/or experience in neuropsychological assessment and theory will be important.
