This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists working for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking for individuals who must have evidence of a good level of education along with a determination to deliver high quality compassionate care to our patients.

 

Main duties of the job

Our phlebotomy team deliver a high-quality patient focused blood taking service in a wide range of settings across Calderdale, and Kirklees. This includes taking blood in our two hospitals, GP surgeries, out-patient services, community diagnostic centres and patients’ homes.

Good IT skills are essential to this post, along with experience of working in a health care setting or customer service focused role . Previous experience in venepuncture would be desirable, but is not essential as we will deliver full training to the right calibre of person.

 

 

Working for our organisation

You must have the ability to work under pressure and be able to meet the travel requirements of the post, as this post will require the member of staff to travel between the hospital sites, community sites and patients homes. Access to a vehicle for work purposes is required.

We operate a seven-day service, including bank holidays, between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00, and the post holder will be required to work across all these times to deliver the service. 

However, the service requirements are continually changing to meet with needs of the patients, so flexibility is a key component.

Relevant posts will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
• Adhere to Trust Aseptic Non-Touch Technique Policy (ANTT).
• Work unsupervised in our hospital settings, community clinics and undertaking
domiciliary (home) visits.
along with business insurance.
• Keep fully stocked Phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers within blood collecting
units and clinics and support stock taking out in the community settings.
• Maintain work areas and trolleys, keeping them clean, neat, and tidy.
• Undertake surveys/audits when requested to do so.
• Attend to staff and patients queries, referring appropriately.
• Comply with all Health and Safety Regulations
• Use of a visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q-pulse and work-related e-mails.
• There is a commitment to work a seven-day service inclusive of bank holidays between
the hours of 08:00 and 20:00. Must be flexible to adapt to the needs of the service.
• It will be necessary to cover other staff when required.
• Any duties as defined by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager and Team leader in charge.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level A* - D or equivalent in Mathematics & English
  • Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer service-related subject
  • Willingness to complete further training to complement and support specified role

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a health care setting or customer service focused role
  • Evidence of complying with legislation, policies and procedures
  • Evidence of ability to work under pressure whilst ensuring that patients are your priority
  • Experience of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to lift, bend, push, pull and stand for long periods of time
Desirable criteria
  • Access to a vehicle required along with business insurance
  • Previous experience using Point of Care testing equipment
