Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit skilled and highly motivated individuals into the role of Mental Health Support worker. These are exciting and dynamic roles within the CRISS (Crisis Resolution Intensive Support
Service) which is a dynamic and flexible service which offers 24/7 crisis assessments and home-based treatment for working age adults across the city. The service is currently under a period of development to bring together both sides of the service in localities across the city and in line with Core Fidelity standards.
We are seeking Mental Health Support Workers who have experience of working in acute mental health care and motivated to support our service users to experience improved mental health within the community. The ideal applicants will have experience in mental health, facilitating and meeting the various individual physical, mental and holistic needs of service users whilst under direction and supervision of senior colleagues.
You will work within a MDT led team which aims to reduce admissions to hospital and facilitate early discharge through home based treatment. You will be expected to work with service users and carers in the community to provide care to service users with acute mental health needs.
It is essential that applicants hold a full driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support workers undertake a broad range of care delivery and support activities and duties, and provide a high standard of care for service users within a community setting.


This will include delivering care in line with agreed care plans, often (but not always) under the supervision of a senior practitioner.


To have effective verbal communication skills and an excellent understanding of how to build rapport with service users, carers and others.


To establish a supportive and respectful relationship with the service user group.


To maintain accurate records of client care, informing colleagues of any changes in the service users presentation, and / or health or social care needs as and when needed.


Experience of working with a range of people with acute and complex mental health needs.

Demonstrates values that are consistent with those of the Trust.

 Have an understanding of how a mental illness can impact on a person’s wellbeing

Will show a level of knowledge about community resources and how to help service users access them.


Ability to respond well to individuals who are presenting in a crisis situation, and understand the need to escalate and document accordingly such situations to senior staff within the team.

Fully participates in clinical supervision and mandatory training as required.

 Have completed or be willing to attain the Certificate in Care or accreditation for NVQ 3 in Care or a recognised equivalent

To be organized and adaptable, creative and resourceful in approach

To provide support for other team members as required and under the direction of the senior team members.

Has experience of working with diverse populations and values the work associated to promoting diversity and social inclusion.

Knowledge

  • A good level of understanding of and commitment to the recovery model, and its application to care delivery
  • Has an awareness of physical health, able to conduct a basic physical health assessment to include, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight and blood sugar monitoring. Able to accurately record and seek advice from a senior colleague if required.
