Job overview
A Training Programme Director (TPD) is primarily responsible for the commissioning and provision of, and quality managing Dental Foundation Training within NHS Primary Care dental practices in the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Scheme.
The Dental Foundation Training Programme Director will be accountable
to the Postgraduate Dental Dean under the direction of the Associate Dean/Regional Advisor/Patch Dean or equivalent, for the discharge of his/her responsibilities.
The post holder will have a demonstrable working knowledge of the aims and objectives of Dental Foundation Training and NHS General Dental Practice.
They will act as a point of support for Educational Supervisors and Foundation Dentists involved with the Dental Foundation Training Scheme and will contribute to training and delivery of educational programmes relevant to DFT.
Main duties of the job
- Provide the Postgraduate Dental Dean or their nominee with regular Quality Management reports and other reports as and when required
- Where appropriate, liaise with the Local Office of NHS England (or its agents) regarding Dental Foundation Training
- Able to work as an integral part of the Dental Foundation Training Programme team to develop quality-based training for Foundation Dentists in the WT&E Local Office programmes to national and regional standards
- Provide and receive complex or sensitive communications and ensure that information is shared with a degree of tact, diplomacy and/or sensitivity in a suitable format for the relevant audience.
- Establish and proactively maintain effective relationships with stakeholders within internal and external networks
- Input and contribution to relevant internal/external project groups
- Attend regional and national meetings as required
- Liaise effectively (as required) with NHS England WT&E educational and regulatory organisations e.g. LEPs, GDC, WT&E and other NHS stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues within the medical and dental professions; this includes attendance at meetings of TPDs and ESs and other committees as appropriate
- When required and briefed, represent the Postgraduate Dental Dean and present the views of the WT&E Local Office to outside bodies
- Liaise and work collaboratively with clinical educators, the administrative team, and other members of the WT&E Local Office

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GDC Registered Dentist
- Primary Dental Qualification
- At least 5 years experience as a Dental Practitioner
Desirable criteria
- Currently working within an NHS dental practice for the duration of the post
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience and training in clinical and educational supervision to include Foundation Dentists
- Experience of educational leadership
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of the recommendations of Advancing Dental Care/ DERP
