Job overview

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding Pharmacy Technician role and want to develop your skills in a new environment?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and focused Pharmacy Technician to join our prison healthcare team in HMP Liverpool.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will assist with the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high quality prison pharmaceutical service, taking into consideration, at all times, the need to maintain a high level of security.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral member of the Pharmacy Team, who form part of the wider healthcare. You will be required to work bank holidays and weekends and the role is based on the house blocks.

You will be required to support the delivery of Pharmacy Services which will include the administration and supply of medication to prisoners, medicines optimisation and providing advice to other colleagues and prisoners within your competency.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
  • Appropriate accredited technician checking qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of medicines optimisation issues
  • Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.
  • Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
  • Substance misuse knowledge

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
  • Computer literate- able to use Word and Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prepare reports and bulletins
  • Influencing skills
  • Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook (or competent to complete) Patient counselling skills
  • Has a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues
  • Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment
  • Able to demonstrate a good standard of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • Able to interpret and understand prescribing information
  • Medicines supply / administration direct to the patient
  • Smoking cessation advisor
  • Experience of Immunisation and vaccinations
  • Experience of capillary blood testing procedures
