Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Leadership & Organisation Development (OD) Manager to join the Trust at an exciting time in its development. The successful candidate will lead the Leadership and OD team within the HR / OD directorate and will take forward the delivery of organisational development programmes and initiatives that all contribute to our continued success. These include leadership, management development, team development, coaching and mentoring, personal development and enhancing the use of technology in learning. 

Your expertise in the delivery of OD will be critical as you work across the whole of the organisation to increase people capability and help further develop an inclusive, values based culture. You will also lead and manage a number of specific OD projects or workstreams. It means working independently and autonomously but also with a wide range of stakeholders, both inside and outside the Trust. 

Your background is likely to be in a multi-professional environment, where you will have implemented significant OD and learning and development programmes. A highly effective communicator, with the ability to influence at the most senior levels, you’ll have the skill to manage and motivate others. Excellent interpersonal, project management and facilitation skills are also essential. You’ll be able to demonstrate significant experience in areas such as leadership, management, coaching, assessment and facilitation.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide leadership to the OD, management development and staff engagement teams and lead the delivery of the Trust’s leadership and management framework including effective leadership and management thinking, behaviours and values which grows individual and collective capability to enable organisational effectiveness. The post holder will also support the implementation of the NHS people 
plan in relation to leadership, OD and the Trust’s transformation agenda.

The post holder will lead the design, development, implementation and evaluation of a range of specific OD interventions and programmes, in-house personal development, leadership, coaching, management and team development using a range of delivery methods to support the Trust’s mission, values and strategic objectives.

The post holder will support, through collaborative working across the directorate and across the system, where relevant, high quality HR and OD interventions in order to meet business objectives including leadership, management, team leader and team development, talent management, succession planning, coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant first degree or equivalent experience
  • Masters qualification in human resources or a related field or significant relevant experience at a senior level.
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Coaching qualification (e.g. ILM 5 or above)

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a HR / OD / people development role
  • Experience of assessing needs, design delivery and evaluation of development programmes to groups of staff
  • Experience in developing interventions to support employee engagement and positive culture change.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team of people and a track record of leading the team to deliver a high performing service
  • Experience of implementing OD interventions in large and complex organisations.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of current organisation development practice, tools and interventions in the NHS and how this relates to effective performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of mentoring, coaching and learning methodologies

SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Strong training design skills to offer high impact, innovative learning interventions and supporting infrastructure including technology enabled solutions. Ability to research and/or source materials and resources to support learning.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team, influencing and creating respectful and productive relationships
  • Ability to understand Trust key performance indicators and how this relates to the OD agenda
  • Ability to influence and persuade, in both individual and group situations, adapting personal style to meet different situations and influence decisions at a senior level.

  • Manage own workload, handle constantly changing priorities and sometimes work to tight deadlines and able to prioritise effectively
