Job overview

An exciting opportunity has risen for a Clinical Specialist Podiatrist who is keen to make a difference and want to contribute to an organisation which is continuously striving to improve.

You will  provide clinical leadership for the high-risk foot to support both hospital and community-based Podiatry teams in relation to patient with highly complex foot pathologies.

You will be required to  provide clinical knowledge, expertise, and training for junior members of the Podiatry team.

You will be expected to  facilitate and lead a wide range of quality improvements and clinical audit activities, liaising with appropriate health care professionals and working upon trust initiatives to ensure that current practices are maintained and developed in line with the modernisation.

You will be required to travel as part of this role to clincial sites and service users' own residence.

There will be a requirement to  deputise for the Team Leader in wound care/ Foot Protection when required.

Main duties of the job

    Main duties:

To be part of a highly motivated team working independently at advanced level in both community and acute settings, providing a high standard of quality clinical care.

         Utilise highly developed expert knowledge and skills to determine clinical priorities to provide timely intervention for patients with high-risk foot.

·        To provide clinical leadership to Podiatrists and develop training pathways to enhance their skills in the management and treatment of the high-risk foot.

To provide education to Podiatrists and other health care professionals, in areas of speciality, within the trust and local area.

 To work as an autonomous specialist practitioner to develop, implement, and negotiate complex programmes of care, in partnership with patients, carers and health care professionals. This may include diagnosis of complex wound aetiologies and skills in high level of sharp debridement of devitalised tissue.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered podiatrist.
  • Evidence of continuing postgraduate specialist training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in all specialists’ areas within Podiatry
  • Independent Prescribing qualification or working towards one.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-graduate clinical podiatrist NHS work experience including Clinical leadership experience.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of policy/guidelines/pathways
Desirable criteria
  • Contribution in development of MDT pathway

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent advanced clinical skills, utilising evidence-based practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic imaging (i.e. x-ray)
  • Ability to interpret relevant blood results
