Job overview

AGH Solutions Limited is a subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and provides a range of services to the Trust. We have opportunities for dependable, people centred and caring individuals to join our Interpreting Services team. We require experienced Interpreters to interpret and translate for patients whose first language is not English. We are therefore inviting applications from people who are fluent in both English and at least one of the following languages to join our team of Bank of Interpreters:

 Arabic, Bangla (Sylheti dialect only), Bulgarian, Cantonese, Czech, Dari, Farsi/Persian, Gujarati, Hungarian, Italian, Kurdish Sorani, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Mandarin, Oromo, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi (Mirpuri dialect only), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Sinhala, Slovak, Spanish, Tamil, Thai, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

 We require Interpreters to undertake face to face bookings or remote interpreting where suitable for clinical appointments via telephone and video. You must be able to communicate effectively with patients, clinical teams. work colleagues and visitors throughout the process and delivery of the service. You must have excellent listening and communication skills and be able to consecutively and simultaneously, interpret and translate health and medical information accurately. You must have an excellent understanding of the Interpreters Code of Conduct along with Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding policies, Information Governance and Data Protection requirements. A professional qualification is essential such as Certificate in Community Interpreting or NVQ Level 3 in Interpreting. A Diploma in Public Service Interpreting is desirable.

Provide a confidential, comprehensive, and sensitive interpreting service for patients, their relatives or carers and the Trust multi-professional teams on a face to face, telephone, visual conference basis.

Hours of work will vary but generally bookings are between the hours of 8am – 5pm and out of hours on an ad-hoc basis including evening and weekend working, as and when required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in English Grade C or above
  • Minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Interpreting or Certificate in Community Interpreting or equivalent qualification and levels of experience in the additional community language spoken
  • Languages required are as per advert
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI)
  • Spoken English at ILETS or equivalent.

Skills & Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Excellent fluent communication skills in English including listening and verbal skills
  • Excellent fluent communication skills in the additional community language including listening and verbal skills.
  • Be able to interpret clearly and concisely between English and the alternative community spoken language following the principles and code of conduct for Interpreters.
  • Be able to consecutively and simultaneously, interpret and translate health and medical information accurately.
  • Ability to complete records of work and to work to procedures and deadlines and within guidance
  • Basic Admin Skills and Good Telephone manner and be able to speak clearly and concisely over the telephone
  • Good IT skills, use of email, Video systems, Microsoft office, i.e., Excel, Word, etc

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the local ethnic community and its issues relevant to the languages spoken
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Interpreting Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Policies for Interpreters
  • Knowledge on Safeguarding, Data Protection, handling of confidential data, Equality and Respect and Dignity policies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of Interpreting and translating in a public service organisation.
  • Previous experience of interpreting and translating health and medical terminology from English to the community language and vice versa.
  • Experience of working with the Public and Customer services experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
