Job overview

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHSFT), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT), and Harrogate District Hospital (HDH) have formed a joint venture, Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP (IPS) to provide a high-quality diagnostic and consultative service to clinical service users of both Hospital Trusts, and to primary and secondary care providers within the locality.

Applications are invited for full time/part time and bank Medical Laboratory Assistants (Agenda for Change Band 2) in Specimen Reception on both the Airedale Hospital & Bradford Royal Infirmary site.

Main duties of the job

Medical Laboratory Assistants are a key staff group within the pathology laboratory. Candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical skills. Team working and good communication skills are essential. Previous laboratory experience would be an advantage for the position however full training will be provided. Basic IT skills would also be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be required to work in Specimen Reception on either site to provide support to the Blood Sciences department. 

The hours of work are based on a 24/7 work pattern which will include days, late shifts and night working Monday to Friday, Weekends, and Bank Holidays. 

Opportunities for personal development are strongly supported; however please note this post may not be suitable for individuals with Biomedical Science degrees as there is no progressional route from this post to a Biomedical Scientist grade.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work in all sections within the department. These areas include General Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion. 

The department operates a 24/7 service. The required core working hours for this post are 12-8pm shifts Monday to Friday
