Job overview

Applications are invited from experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists for a developmental post from Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to Band 7 Advanced Senior Biomedical Scientist in Blood Transfusion with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Transfusion. The successful applicant must be motivated and committed to undertake and complete the Higher Specialist Portfolio in Blood Transfusion Science course which will be funded as part of the role. Support will be provided throughout the developmental program including an allowed amount of study leave time to attain the required qualification and competence.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on a senior role within the management of the department ensuring that the high standards already established within the department are maintained. You will also be responsible for direction setting and supervision of staff to ensure the routine technical and quality activities of the Blood Transfusion department are performed and monitored. Candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by a sound discipline scientific knowledge and understanding of BSQR and BCSH guidelines. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and a leadership ability to support individual and team working is essential. All these skills and attributes are in line with the Trust’s Right Care Behaviours.

 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team of skilled Biomedical Scientists within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion department to provide a high quality pathology service. The post holder will work within a specified department within pathology with department duties listed within the appendix.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
  • HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/ Blood Transfusion or equivalent qualification Haematology/ Blood Transfusion or experience that evidences work at equivalent level
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of professional body such as IBMS.
