Ultimately, what makes Airedale special is our people. Not just our staff, but our volunteers, patients, visitors, and wider population who make up the Airedale family. This is a Trust that sits at the heart of our community, and our communities are very proud of their Trust.

Job overview

Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP (IPS) invites applications for the position of Pathology General Manager with responsibility for the Bradford laboratory site and cross-site Histopathology service.

IPS is a joint venture providing a high-quality pathology service to Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHST), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) and Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT).

It an exciting time to join IPS. This is a key senior leadership role based primarily on the Bradford laboratory site but requiring regular rotation and attendance at the Airedale and Harrogate sites, ensuring a strong, visible presence with the three other general managers in the service. The successful candidate will be employed directly by ANHST.

The candidate will be an enthusiastic HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with substantial senior managerial experience and FIBMS (or equivalent, e.g., MSc). The candidate will also hold a suitable post-graduate management qualification or be able to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in a post 8a or above.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will manage and work closely with the Cross-site Histopathology service lead and liaise with the Histopathology Clinical Director, working together in triumvirate to deliver a safe and high-quality service across all sites. They will report to the IPS Director of Operations, through whom they will provide service assurance to the IPS Medical Director and Managing Director. They will also be the site lead for the Bradford laboratory, working closely with BTHFT colleagues in providing a high-quality pathology service.

Demonstrable experience of managing staff and pathology services is essential. Ideally candidates will be emotionally intelligent, self-aware, resilient and have a compassionate leadership style. This role will require encouraging development of the full team through managerial training and strategy development, working alongside the other General Managers and Senior Management Team colleagues in delivering this. Despite the Bradford-based nature of this role it is imperative that the candidate can consider the needs of all the three laboratories and partner Trusts in their decision-making.

Candidates will need to have a ‘can-do’ attitude, be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational abilities. This should be supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.
