Job overview

The role of Head of Severn Foundation School will work with and support the Deputy Postgraduate Dean / Foundation School Director  in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the NHS England (and legacy HEE) mandate and long-term workforce plan.

The role will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. 

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinician with a thorough understanding of education and training across the region.

They will also have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, Professional Association and/or Regulatory body
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters
Desirable criteria
  • Educational qualification such as a postgraduate certificate diploma or Masters in Medical Education

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters
  • Ability to quickly establish personal and professional credibility with colleagues and other key stakeholders

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Considerable experience of working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters
  • Demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of the Foundation curriculum
