Job overview

As an Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) Clinical Duty Manager (CDM) you will be part of a team responsible and accountable for providing leadership to Clinicians through safe and effective clinical support and supervision, with staff welfare in a demanding environment.

Supported by the IUC Clinical Operations Lead close working relations with our Clinical Practice Developers, you will contribute to drive development, maintenance of autonomous clinical assessment/decision-making skills of clinicians achieving safe and appropriate outcomes for patients to appropriate care pathways/resources.

Collaboratively working with and providing clinical support to the IUC Operational Management Team maintaining patient safety and staff well-being, ensuring operational and clinical quality standards are met.

As a member of the CDM Team you will contribute to a clinically focused 24/7 service, effectively clinically leading the IUC Contact Centres, maintaining close working with the Emergency Operations Centre CDM Team.

Opportunities available at both Wakefield and Rotherham Contact Centres, cross site working is required on occasions.

Full and Part Time opportunities are available.  While we are looking for permanent team members, discussion around secondment opportunities is welcomed.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Duty Manager, you will be accountable for the effective day to day Leadership and Management of the clinical delivery of the Integrated Urgent Care (111) service for Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Making clinical and operational management decisions that are proportionate and necessary to ensure the safe provision of high-quality clinical care to the patients of Yorkshire. You will be responsible for the delivery of both the Operational and Strategic objectives of the Trust as appropriate to the level of your role.

Behaviours within the role will be as important as results, and it is essential for the Clinical Duty Manager to be flexible in approach to managing the day to day running of a busy IUC environment to ensure that the service is best set to meet the needs of patients.

Clinical Duty Managers may be expected to undertake the role of tactical management in line with JESIP principles, managing any major/critical incidents that occur in conjunction with the Operational Manager, Senior Management Teams and the Trust’s strategic commanders.  Any necessary training will be provided.

Clinical Duty Managers undertake the role of tactical management in line with JESIP principles, managing any major/critical incidents that occur in conjunction with strategic commanders and Senior Management teams, always taking responsibility for communications relating to the incident.

Assisting in the achievement of national and local performance targets and quality standards for the Contact Centre and the direct line management and development responsibility for staff within the IUC Contact Centres.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registered paramedic or NMC Level 1 registered nurse with at least two years clinical experience
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Skills / Competencies

  • Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to set clear standards, empower and delegate
  • Ability to make sense of, and manage, conflicting priorities and reach effective and timely solutions
  • Able to make critical decisions quickly and rationally based upon complex information and the need for action based upon options available
  • Understands the concepts of negotiation and can apply tactics to negotiations to achieve satisfactory outcomes
