Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

Consultant

Job overview

We are delighted to seek applications for the post of Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) to join our team in Salisbury.

This substantive position is a replacement post and the successful applicant will join the 7 existing Intensive Care Consultants who lead patient care in the intensive care unit (ICU), one of the premier services in this high performing Foundation Trust. The CQC have recently described Critical Care services as 'Outstanding' in Salisbury.

Our Intensive Care Unit is housed in a modern facility containing 12 physical bed spaces, of which 10 are currently staffed to support a flexible mix of level 2 and level 3 patents.

Interviews for this post will be Wednesday 6th August 2025

Main duties of the job

This is a 10 PA post, but it is likely that an additional programmed activity could be offered to the successful candidate. On average, 4.5 PA are delivered as DCC to ICU, a further 4 PAs of DCC are provided outside of ICU in the applicant's base speciality and 1.5 SPAs. The postholder may want to have time for research during DCC and this can be discussed with Clinical Leads and Clinical director on appointment.

The proportion of SPA would increase in line with increasing responsibilities after appointment.

There are currently 8 intensive care consultants who take an equal share in managing the daytime weekday workload, and 7 of these provide out of hours non resident cover. Most of the current ICM consultants have a second specialty of anaesthesia but one has a second specialty of Emergency Medicine. We welcome applications from CCT holders with a dual CCT in any other specialty, as well as those with single specialty ICM.
