Main duties of the job

You will be working in our busy unlicensed Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit, preparing a range of products across our Central Intravenous Additive service (CIVAs), dispensing of Parenteral Nutrition (PN), and making/dispensing of our Chemotherapy service including syringes and infusions. This role includes a number of support roles such as the daily cleaning of rooms and isolators within the Aseptic Unit, documentation preparation and general IT use including the use of the electronic prescribing system ARIA, and JAC for stock ordering and dispensing. Manual handling of stock, and light to moderate physical work are key parts of the role. This includes transferring stock and/or consumables into the Aseptic Unit, and also lifting of items such as boxes containing IV/PN bags. The role also involves some clerical duties such as filing, stock control, answering phone and other general admin as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Pharmacy Support Worker - Aseptic Services (Band 2 progressing to a Band 3 after achievement of Level 2 accreditation and Pharmacy related experience and training completion)

A comprehensive in-house training programme will be carried out to ensure all new staff members are fully trained before carrying out any duties within the Aseptic Unit. This training is also extended into the main dispensary where training will be provided in preparation for weekend working.

There will be the opportunity to not only develop your skills and knowledge in Aseptics, but to also have the opportunity to further your career in Pharmacy. This is fully supported by the Education and Training team and the accredited training providers.

This role includes participation in the weekend working in Dispensary. This is a 1 in 8 week rota, and includes working 1 bank holiday per year.
