We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join our Executive Team. The CMO is responsible for leading the Trust’s medical workforce, providing leadership to the Board of Directors on medical issues informed by high levels of engagement with the medical staff across the organisation.

As a key member of the Executive Team and Board of Directors, the CMO will shape the Trust’s strategic direction, ensure delivery of performance against objectives, resource utilisation and value for money and work within high standards of corporate governance.

Main duties of the job

In addition, the CMO will:

·         Provide leadership and oversight to Deputy and Associate Medical Directors in operational and corporate roles, providing supportive, effective, and cohesive medical leadership across the Trust.

·         Create effective working relationship with NHSE medical leaders and play a lead role in the ICB clinical leadership supporting a focus on greater integration and excellent primary and secondary care partnership working in BSW and Wiltshire.

·         Act as responsible officer in relation to the General Medical Council revalidation requirements.

·         With the Chief Nursing Officer, act as co-lead for quality and governance, with responsibility for clinical effectiveness, audit, mortality, antimicrobial stewardship, and the Trust’s clinical academic programme.

·         Be the Trust’s Caldicott Guardian and work with the Trusts Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) to ensure robust information governance arrangements.

·         In support of the Chief Nursing Officer, ensure the Patient Safety Agenda is fit for purpose and delivers on its objectives.

Be the responsible Executive Director for Research, ensuring that the Trust maintains excellent academic and research relationships.

Essential criteria
  • Master degree or equivalent level postgraduate qualification
  • Appropriate professional qualification and current registration with GMC/GDC
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in an Associate Director or Deputy Director role
  • Track record of success in a complex healthcare organisation
  • Evidence of leading and participation in corporate decision making and managing in a complex change environment creating sustained improvements
  • Leading multi-professional and cross-organisational service development and evidence of successful delivery of agreed service objectives
