An opportunity has arisen for a ward clerk position on the Children's Day Assessment Unit ( CDAU ), joining our friendly Sarum Ward team . The CDAU is a busy unit taking referrals from Salisbury's Emergency Department and GP's , whilst also allowing open access to children and young people following specific medical guidance. The service is for children and young people aged 0 - 18 years. Working with multiple specialties, this administrative position is essential to support the smooth day to day running of the service. The successful candidate would have excellent communication skills, be warm and friendly as often they are the first point of contact to welcome the children with their families / carers to the unit .
To meet the needs of the service , ideally we are looking for candidates who will be able to work from 11 :00am - 19 :00 pm , Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays with scope to cover one weekend day .However working within the current administrative team their is some flexibility around this .

Main duties of the job
To be the first point of contact for service users ,carers and visitors to the clinical team and to respond in a helpful manner to enquires or other issues raised.
To provide a comprehensive service to Sarum Ward supporting the day to day running of the ward and the Day Assessment Unit .
Preparation of medical notes for inpatient and outpatients admissions.
Receiving and welcoming patients attending the ward and DAU, using the computerised administration system , negotiating appointments and ensuring all outcomes are complete.
Helping maintain ward security.
Supporting nursing and medical staff with clerical needs including writing minutes at meetings.
To interact compassionately with service users and carers at all times. Service users could present with a range of mental health conditions and/ or learning difficulties.
Duties may vary depending on local working arrangements.

Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 qualification or relevant experience
- Ability to undergo further training as necessary
- Experience of MS Office including Outlook , Excel and word
- Experience of working in a reception area contact with patients and relatives
- Good written and verbal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively face to face and good telephone skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Awareness of importance of confidentiality and dealing with sensitive information
- Ability to record and input accurate data with attention to detail
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in the NHS
- Experience of working with Lorenzo IT system
