Job overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Locum Consultant in Dermatology to join our esteemed team. This full-time (10PA) position fixed term for 12 months and offers a unique opportunity to provide dermatology service cover to outpatient clinics and minor skin surgery supervision of day treatments and inpatients as required. You will need to possess strong general dermatology skills and be passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.
Our purpose-built Dermatology department, offers comprehensive services in a self-contained facility featuring a day treatment area, UVB & UVA provision, outpatient consultation rooms, and a dermatological surgery theatre. Our multidisciplinary team includes 2 substantive consultants, 1 clinical assistant, 2 dermatology nurse specialists, and 2 skin cancer nurse specialists. We cover all aspects of adult and paediatric dermatology, specialising in patch testing, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, iontophoresis, and clinics for vulval, plastics, immunocompromised patients, and acne.
Linked with Plastic Surgery and the Laser Service under the Salisbury Skin Service, we serve a diverse patient population from Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, and Somerset, with referrals from across the South Coast, for burns scar cases. As part of the BaNES, Swindon, and Wiltshire Integrated Care System, we anticipate transformative developments in dermatology services.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Services:
• Deliver high-quality dermatology services across hospitals and clinics in Wiltshire, Dorset, and surrounding areas.
• Manage and treat patients with various dermatological conditions, including running general dermatology and skin cancer clinics, and performing minor surgeries independently.
• Liaising closely with other specialties in providing advice on inpatients presenting with dermatological conditions
• Participate in weekly skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, collaborating closely with other MDT members.
Patient Care:
• Ensure the ongoing care and treatment of patients under your supervision, adhering to agreed clinical duties within your job plan.
• Covering outpatient clinics and minor skin surgery
• Supervision of day treatments and inpatient care
• Provide cover for colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, including patient care and supervision of junior doctors.
• Offer expert advice and guidance to GPs and other hospital teams during working hours.

- GMC registration with licence to practice
