Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registration
  • Have a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent, acceptable for registration with the HCPC and evidence of further postgraduate study and continuous professional development.
  • A member of the British Dietetic Association and affiliated specialist interest groups relevant to this post.
  • Post registration training in advanced communication, motivational interviewing and behaviour change skills and evidence of effective verbal and written communication.
  • Undertaken leadership and clinical supervisory skills training and evidence of ability to lead/manage a team.
  • Evidence of teaching, training, and supervision of students
  • Excellent communication skills and evidence of working in MDT’s.
  • Evidence of working across organisational boundaries to develop effective pathways of care to the benefit of patient experience
  • Evidence of effective management & supervision of junior staff & students.
  • Broad NHS experience including extensive band 6/7 experience in Acute +/or Community setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and national priorities and champion of best practice
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical governance and patient safety
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of the BDA Parenteral and enteral nutrition module.
  • MSc in Advanced Dietetic practice or a master’s degree or evidence demonstrating working at this level.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of ability to deliver specialist evidence-based dietetics for Cancer patients.
  • Ability to facilitate and deliver effective evidence based dietary and nutrition education sessions working with patient groups and staff groups.
  • Ability to promote and develop nutrition risk screening practice through other staff for all patients with a cancer diagnosis, especially for those receiving chemotherapy.
  • The ability to actively prioritise, meet deadlines and achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Evidence of being caring and compassionate with a good understanding of managing patients with complex needs.
  • Ability to advise and make recommendations on the prescription of enteral feeds and dietetic supplements based on interpretation of nutritional assessment and drug prescriptions and interactions relating to nutritional intake.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective part of a team(s) maintaining dynamic working relationships with key staff, e.g., Medical, Nursing, Therapy staff to facilitate timely and effective nutrition interventions for patients. Working as the patient’s advocate for their nutritional care.
  • Ability to hold others to account to support service delivery and safe practice.
  • Ability to organise own workload whilst supervising others.
  • Evidence of personal and professional development.
  • Proven practical problem-solving skills.
  • Good computer literacy to support communication, reporting, audit and working with electronic patient record systems.
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • To work within HCPC registration standards for Dietetics.
  • Ability to think creatively and contribute to service improvement initiatives for benefit of your patients.
  • Understanding of obligations in relation to equality and diversity law
  • Ability to communicate complex information to patients, carers, and MDT.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to supervise and teach junior staff, patients, carers, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in supervision and appraisal of junior team members.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate service provision through audit and data collection
  • Ability to be proactive in service development.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Evidence of ability to deliver specialist evidence-based dietetics for gastroenterology patients.
  • Ability to facilitate and deliver effective evidence based dietary and nutrition education sessions working with patient groups and staff groups.
  • Ability to promote and develop nutrition risk screening practice through other staff for all patients with a cancer diagnosis, especially for those receiving chemotherapy.
  • Range of broad post-graduate Dietetics experience
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing CPD
