Do you have a passion for Palliative Care services and the Hospice environment?  This is an exciting opportunity to join the Salisbury Specialist Palliative Care Service as a Medical Secretary. Our administrative team plays an integral part in supporting our clinical teams, the service and its patients.   

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the other Medical Secretary to provide a quality secretarial and administrative service to support the effective delivery of patient and family care by Salisbury Palliative Care Services.  

To provide a secretarial service to 2 Consultants and the Community / Hospice / FST Team Leader, by effective diary management, preparation of meeting material, minute taking as necessary and typing of documents on request with clinical / discharge letters.

Achieved Grades/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Education: GCSE grade C or above in English / or equivalent qualification.
  • NVQ III in administration or equivalent experience.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft, Excel and Outlook
  • Communication skills: communicate effectively with clinical, nursing, admin staff and external organisations
  • Negotiation skills: Flexible with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Knoweledge and skills: plan own workload with ability to understand and action conflicting priorities.
  • High level of organisational ability
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload. Working on own initiative
  • Able to react to issues that need immediate attention and multi-task
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work alone using initiative to make decisions independently within responsibilities of the role
Desirable criteria
  • RSA 1 and II word processing / ECDL or equivalent experience
  • NHS experience
  • Experience of patient focused service
  • Judgement required when receiving calls and dealing sensitively with patients
